LtCol. Alberto ALLETTO

LtCol Alberto Alletto was born in Udine on 17 February 1965. On entering the Italian Army he attended the Military Academy in Modena and the Branch School in Turin, from 1985 to 1989. At the end of this training period he was commissioned as a Platoon Commander and assigned to duties in Cividale del Friuli with the 76th Infantry Regiment, where he became a Company Commander in 1994.

From 1997 to 1998 he attended the War School Staff College Course, and completed a postgraduate course in Strategic Sciences.

In September 1998 he was assigned to the “Pozzuolo del Friuli” Cavalry Brigade in Gorizia, as a Staff Officer with the Personnel Office. In 1999 and 2000 he attended the Radio/TV Broadcasting School of the Italian Army General Staff in Rome, completing a Public Speaking course and training as a Public Information Officer.

He first worked as a Public Affairs Officer in March 2000, when he took up service with the KFOR - first as Public Information Officer in the Press Information Centre, and then as Public Information LNO in the Joint Operations Centre.

In 2001 he spent time as a UN observer in the Western Sahara and, at the end of this mission, he was assigned to the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps - Italy as Chief Joint Visitors Bureau. Subsequently, he was Deputy Chief Joint Visitors Bureau for ISAF in Kabul.

In 2006 LtCol Alletto was assigned to the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps - Spain, in Valencia, as Chief Deputy Commander’s Office. He was then appointed Battalion Commander of the “Granatieri di Sardegna” Brigade Support Battalion.

During his operational tours abroad, he has served in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Western Sahara, Sudan and Afghanistan.

His decorations include the Gold Medal for 25 years of Meritorious Service, the Medal for Participation in SFOR and KFOR Operations, medals in recognition of his part in the UN Mission in Western Sahara and the Joint Military Commission in Sudan, and the NATO Medal for his services in ISAF.

His hobbies include travelling and photography.
