The Danish Ambassador to Iran, Tomas CHRISTENSEN, visited the NATO Defense College in Rome today. He was warmly welcomed by the Commandant, Lieutenant General Wolf-Dieter LOESER.
The keynote lecture delivered by the Ambassador was a unique opportunity for NRCC Course Members and NDC Staff to analyze together practicable ways to promote lasting mutual understanding among different religions and cultures. The meeting was also an extraordinary opportunity to understand the internal dynamics of Iran. As a witness to the current situation, Mr CHRISTENSEN provided the NDC Staff with a faithful account of the present-day Iranian scenario.
The Ambassador's speech initiated a lively question and answer period that was a clear demonstration of the interest aroused in the topics he had addressed.
The lecture was part of the program for the NATO Regional Cooperation Course (NRCC), which was developed in 2009 to foster relations among Alliance countries and those of the broader Middle East. It differs from the other courses offered by the College in that its basic aim is to examine issues of common interest not only from a NATO perspective but also from the individual points of view of Mediterranean Dialogue and Istanbul Cooperation Initiative partner nations.
In this framework, Ambassador Christensen's visit was a significant step towards fulfilment of the NRCC mission: to enhance international dialogue and develop mutual understanding in areas that are crucial for global security.
