The Senior Course 116 Spring Field Study began today with the “Italian perspective”. In the main auditorium of the NATO Defense College, Course Members received wide spectrum information on Italian security and defence policy from representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Defence.
Counsellor Marco GIOMINI, NATO and Military Office of the Directorate for Multilateral and Political Cooperation, opened the session by explaining Italian policies and priorities concerning political-military security.
A different point of view, focused on internal security, was provided by Mr Vincenzo DELICATO, Director of the Office for Coordination and Planning of Police Forces.
A briefing on the third pillar, defence policy, was delivered by Major General Salvatore FARINA, Deputy Chief of the Military Policy and Planning Department, who also chaired the panel during the one-hour Q&A period that followed.
The Course Members' lively interest was clear from the challenging and pertinent questions they put to the lecturers, who had a chance to expand on the information presented and to analyse in greater depth certain aspects of Italian security and defence policy.
To celebrate the upcoming Italian National Day, the panel was followed by a concert by the Band of the Bersaglieri, who took the audience on a musical journey through the most important moments in Italian history.
