Senior Course 118 Course Members experienced their first day of Regional Approaches Field Study, devoted to lectures on the Italian Perspective.

The Italian Security and Defence Policy was presented by three distinguished speakers, who gave a clear overview on this topic to the Course Members.

The first lecture, on the Political-Military Security policy implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was given by Minister BRAUZZI, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Directorate General for Political and Security Affairs, Senior Advisor on Strategic Issues. This lecture was mainly focused on illustrating the Italian policy in strengthening the relationship and cooperation with UN, EU and NATO and creating new relationships with non allied countries.

The second lecture was delivered by Dr. DELICATO, Ministry of Interior, Public Security Department, responsible for International Bilateral Affairs in Law Enforcement Issues, who outlined the Italian government's homeland security policies and priorities. In particular he dealt with illegal immigration, drug trafficking, smuggling of migrants, agreements between Italy and Libya.

Major General Salvatore FARINA, Ministry of Defense, General Staff, Deputy Chief Department Military Policy and Planning, responsible for Joint Plans and Capabilities delivered a presentation on Defence Policy covering the main commitments of the Italian Armed Forces and the most important security challenges for a geostrategic key role country as Italy is.

The lectures were followed by a lengthy Q&A period during which the Course Members showed a lively interest in the topics, asking the panellists challenging questions.

This is the last Field Study for Senior Course 118 before the Graduation and a great chance to gain an interesting overview on Northern Europe Countries Defense policies.

In fact, the next stages of the European Field Study will be in Warsaw, Moscow, Riga, Stockholm, and Helsinki.
