Monday 30 January 2012

On Friday 27th January 2012, a group of 25 Course Members and Staff of the Paris-based Centre des Hautes Études du Ministère de l’Intérieur (CHEMI) visited the NATO Defense College (NDC) in Rome during their European Field Study. The delegation was led by M. le Préfet VIDELAINE and by the Director of the CHEMI, M. le Préfet JASPERS.
The CHEMI, which is the French Ministry of the Interior’s Centre for Advanced Studies, is attended by OF5-6 officers and equivalent-level civilians from the national Police, Gendarmerie and Territorial Administration. Attendees complete a one-year course of study in Paris which prepares them for leading positions in the Ministry of the Interior.
The group was cordially welcomed to the NDC by Brigadier General Patrick DESJARDINS, Director of Academic Operations (DAO), and by Captain Jean Nicolas GAUTHIER, French Senior National Representative. Following an informative briefing on the NDC by the DAO, the visitors were given a presentation by Dr Pierre RAZOUX (NDC Research Division) and Dr Jean-Loup Samaan (NATO Regional Cooperation Course) on the recent NATO operation in Libya and the consequences of the Arab Spring for NATO. The lecture was followed by a very lively Q&A session, during which Course Members had the opportunity to engage in active debate and discussion with the lecturers and the DAO.
