From 28-30 March 2017, Allied Command Transformation (ACT) held the Framework for Future Allied Operations (FFAO) workshop at the NATO Defense College in Rome. The senior leader present at the workshop was Rear Admiral Peter Gumataotao, ACT Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Plans & Policy.

NDC Dean and Acting Commandant Brigadier General (ret.) František Mičánek welcomes participants to the ACT FFAO Workshop

The Stategic Analysis Branch of HQ SACT is currently responsible for two major documents: the Strategic Foresight Analysis (SFA) and the FFAO. Both documents are being developed in close coordination with member nations, the NCS, Centres of Excellence, academia, think tanks and many others. The input from all these sources is mainly collected during various workshops organized throughout the development phase.

The specific aim of the FFAO workshop at the NDC was “to discuss critical issues that will help make our Alliance even stronger, as it seeks to contribute to stability in an increasingly complex and challenging world”. A group of more than 100 participants had several plenary sessions, with ample opportunity to discuss workshop objectives and survey results. There were also breakout sessions for detailed discussion of selected topics.
