Modular Short Course 131-5
During the second week of January 2018, the NATO Defense College hosted Modular Short Course (MSC) 131-5, entitled “Regional Issues”: it ran in conjunction with Senior Course 131, as part of the NDC’s educational mission.
The Course Members were welcomed on Monday, 8 January 2018 by the Commandant of the NDC LtGen Chris Whitecross (CAN F).
Course Members attended lectures on: Sub-Saharan Africa, by Dr Amandine Gnanguenon (FRA) ; The Black Sea Region, by Mr Tabib Huseynov (AZE) and Dr Jeffrey Mankoff (USA); The Western Balkans, by Mr Gerald Knaus (AUT); Iran and Central Asia, by Dr Razvan Buzatu (ROU); and China, Japan and the Koreas, by Dr James Boutilier (CAN) and Dr David Scott (GBR). All lectures were followed by a discussion.
MSC 131-5 was attended by 13 participants from 12 different NATO countries. The Course focused on the geopolitical importance of certain selected regions, with key political, military, social and economic trends within them, and the consideration of possible roles for NATO in responding to related threats and challenges.
