Modular Short Course 132-1, "The Global Security Environment"
During the week 26 February - 2 March, the NATO Defense College hosted Modular Short Course (MSC) 132-1 on “The Global Security Environment”.
Running in conjunction with Senior Course 132, the MSC analysed processes and conceptual issues underlying the security environment of the 21st century and their significance for NATO.
Throughout the week the group attended a variety of lectures: “Religion and Conflict”, by Msgr Lucio Sembrano (ITA) and Mr Mustafa Akyol (TUR); “Strategic Thinking”, by Prof. Christopher Coker (GBR); “Technological Development: Risks and Opportunities”, by Prof. Dr Holger Mey (DEU); “The Evolution of International Law and Ethics in Modern Warfare”, by Prof. Arnulf Becker (USA) and Dr Tamás Hoffmann (HUN); and “The International System and Schools of Thought”, by Dr Todd Hall (GBR). The week’s activities were also complemented by Q&A sessions and many other opportunities for debate and discussion.
MSC 132-1 comprised eleven military and civilian participants, from seven NATO countries and one Partnership for Peace member state.
