Graduation Ceremony of Senior Course 134
On Friday 19 July, 2019, the NATO Defense College (NDC) celebrated the graduation of Senior Course 134 (SC 134), composed of 76 high-ranking officers and senior civil servants representing 33 NATO and partner nations. The event was attended by Ambassadors, Defence Attachés, authorities of the Italian Armed Forces, SC134 family members and NDC staff, with the Turkish Ambassador to the Italian Republic H.E. Murat Salim Esenli, as guest of honour.
NDC Commandant, LGEN Chris Whitecross, welcomed the audience and congratulated all Course Members for having successfully completed the intensive 5½ -month course at the NDC. During the opening remarks, the Commandant stated: “She was confident that each graduate will bring back to their nations or next international posts, additional competences and skills that will better equip them to manage diversity in a multinational environment, with better cultural awareness and an enhanced ability to communicate and to negotiate.”
In his speech, H.E. Esenli highlighted that solidarity among the allies is of crucial importance to the Alliance and stressed to the graduates that they represented their countries with distinction and brought diverse views to the discussions.
A key moment in the ceremony was the announcement of the winner of the Eisenhower Prize for the best Study Project, which was awarded to Committee 3.
The 76 SC 134 Course Members filed through the Maynard-Thorn Auditorium for the last time, saluting their respective national flags and Flag Officers, before receiving their graduation diplomas from LGEN Whitecross, H.E. Esenli and NDC Dean Dr Stephen J. Mariano.
