Visit of the Honourable Franco Frattini to the NDC
On 8 April 2013 the NATO Defense College (NDC) was honoured to welcome an eminent representative of Italy in the person of the Hon. Franco Frattini, widely respected in international diplomacy for the educational standards he upholds so effectively as President of the Società Italiana per l’Organizzazione Internazionale (SIOI).
After receiving a warm welcome from NDC Commandant Lt Gen Arne Bård Dalhaug (NOR A), Mr Frattini was given a detailed briefing on the College’s mission, courses and related activities. This was provided by the Director of Management (DoM), Commodore Harald Håkonsen (NOR N), and was followed by a round table discussion with senior NDC representatives. The last part of the visit was dedicated to a guided tour of the premises.
Franco Frattini graduated in law and enjoyed a distinguished career as a magistrate before entering Parliament in 1994. His wide experience at ministerial level includes two terms as Minister of Foreign Affairs, in 2002-2004 and 2008-2011. Earlier, in the mid-1990s, he was President of the Parliamentary Committee for the Intelligence and Security Services and for State Secrets. At international level, he was Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security from 2004 to 2008.
