NDC Delegation visits Commander-in-Chief of the Montenegrin Navy and MoD officials
On 29 July 2015, a NATO Defense College delegation visited Montenegro for planning discussions with the Commander-in-Chief of the Montenegrin Navy, representatives of the Joint Staff and Special Forces, Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM), and the Hungarian Mission - NATO Contact Point Embassy (CPE) in Montenegro. In September 2015, NDC will jointly sponsor an Expert Roundtable addressing “Securing the Adriatic”, bringing together regional Navy chiefs with leading scholars on the occasion of a port visit to Montenegro of the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group (SNMCMG) 2.
Given the opportunity of the NDC visit, Dr Brooke Smith-Windsor, NDC Research Division, also addressed senior officials of the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs in Podgorica. Dr Smith-Windsor offered a lecture explaining the “Evolution of UN-NATO Relations” from the Cold War period to the present day. A lively discussion ensued particularly as regards the implications for Montenegro’s relationship with the United Nations should it be invited to join the Atlantic Alliance in 2016. Montenegro’s and NATO’s advocacy of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on “Women, Peace and Security” was also highlighted.
