NRCC-16 Field Study: Berlin, Brussels
On 30th October 2016, the 16th NATO Regional Cooperation Course (NRCC-16) began its Field Study in Berlin. The first day started with a visit to the German Ministry of Defence, where the group attended a number of high-level briefings.
In the afternoon, Course Members visited the Federal Academy for Security Policy (Bundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik - BAKS) in Berlin. The Head of International Cooperation and Expert Meetings, Mr Wolfgang Nieter, outlined the Academy’s role in the education and training of government officials and leaders from business and other areas of society.
Col Filippo Bonsignore (ITA A), Head of the NDC Middle East Faculty, spoke about the similarities between the NDC and BAKS, highlighting the potential for future synergies between the two institutions.
On 2nd November, NRCC-16 flew to Brussels for a visit to NATO HQ, where the delegation attended institutional presentations and briefings on the challenges NATO is currently facing.
These two days in Brussels and Berlin gave participants a unique opportunity to better understand how NATO works and the challenges it faces.
