Olivier Schmitt is Professor at the Center for War Studies, University of Southern Denmark, and a research associate at RAND Europe. He is also an associate editor of the European Journal of International Security.

A reserve officer in the French Air and Space Force, he was director of research and studies at the French Institute for Higher National Defence Studies (IHEDN).

His research interests include military power, European security, the transformation of armed forces and geoeconomics.

He is the author ofAllies that Count. Junior Partners in Coalition Warfare (Georgetown UP, 2018), and of French Defence Policy since the End of the Cold War (Routledge, 2020, with Alice Pannier).
