The NDC has agreed to partner with Simon Fraser University’s NATO Field School and Simulation Program to provide curricular support for the Crisis Resolution Negotiation/Mediation/Decision-making Exercise (NMDX) to be held at the College each year and assistance for field trips and site visits. This Junior Course is a significant component of the overall eight-week NATO Field School and Simulation Program. In addition, each year a Volunteer in Education Research and Outreach (VERO) may be nominated by the NATO Field School to intern with the NDC in order to assist in preparations for the annual simulation and to perform other tasks in support of other educational programmes.

The NATO Field School (NFS) and Simulation Program

The NFS gives students the opportunity to observe professionals and experts in their working environment and to be immersed in the decisions that political, diplomatic and military personnel face. This includes visits across Europe, including NATO HQ, SHAPE, the European External Action Service, the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence and many more. Students will develop and test their skills through negotiation and decision-making simulations with mentorship from senior officials and diplomats. Like a dynamic practicum or apprenticeship, the NATO Field School prepares participants for entry-level employment in foreign affairs, defence policy and various national and international security sectors, as well as international NGO sectors.

Eligibility

The NATO Field School and Simulation Program is open to students from all NATO nations. Students must be 19 years of age or older prior to departure and hold a NATO-nation passport.
