Brigadier-General Ducheine<\/strong> (Army Legal Service) (Army Legal Service) is the Deputy Director of the Research Division of NATO’s Defense College (Rome).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously he served as the Professor for Cyber Warfare at the Netherlands Defense Academy (2015-2025), where he also chaired the War Studies Department (2023-2025). At the University of Amsterdam, he was named professor by special appointment in the Law of Military Cyber Operations (2014-2024).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently he\u2019s a Research Associate at the Amsterdam Centre for\u00a0International Law and at The Netherlands Defense Academy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brigadier General Ducheine (1965) started his military training at the Royal Military Academy in 1983, and was commissioned in the Engineer Regiment in 1987. He joined the Army Legal Service in 1998. His areas of expertise are: International Law, Cyber Warfare, Information Warfare. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Ducheine holds degrees (cum laude) in Political Sciences (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) and Law (University of Utrecht). In 2008, he defended his PhD-thesis Armed Forces, Use of Force and Counterterrorism. A study of the legal aspects of the role of the armed forces in combating terror (org. Dutch) at the University of Amsterdam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brigadier Ducheine was appointed ‘Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau (with swords)’ in November 2024. Previously, he received the Meritorious Service Medal (bronze) from the Minister of Defense.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paul Ducheine chairs the Netherlands Army Committee on Traditions and the MoD’s Interim Committee on Gallantry and Bravery. He co-chairs the Group of Experts for the Review Committee on the Intelligence and Security Services (CTIVD). <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
