On Sunday 7 March 2010, SC 116 commenced the 57th walk around the walls of Rome as the beginning of the course Arts and History programme. 168 people set off from Piramide, in marvellous weather, and under the leadership of the Centurian in Charge \u2013 Group Captain Pete Allan \u2013 and began the circumnavigation of Rome following the Aurelian walls. Not only is the event an opportunity to see parts of Rome one would not otherwise see, and learn a little more of the fascinating history of the walls, it provides an opportunity to meet fellow members in a relaxed setting and walk, talk and get to know one another better.<\/p>\n

The route followed its normal course, but this year, thanks to our Swiss member, Lt Col Niklaus Jager, SC116 was able to gain a rare and privileged view of the inside of the walls by accessing his apartment gardens. Thanks go to Niklaus for his useful initiative in making this happen. Sections previously closed off were now also open, which made the day even more enjoyable.<\/p>\n

Thanks go to the British Embassy, once again, for allowing SC 116 to use the embassy gardens for lunchtime refreshments, ably set up by Col Joe Wiley and his logistics team. The group progressed on throughout the day, morale was high in spite of aching limbs, and the walk concluded back at Piramide, safely, and in fine weather. The day proved again how popular the Walls Walk continues to be with each successive Senior Course. A great day was had by all.<\/p>\n
