They then met representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), who briefed them on a number of security issues. LtCol Patrick <a class='photo' href='\/images\/121FS1_Luxembourg_3_2.jpg' rel='lightbox' title=\" LtCol Patrick Fautsch \">Fautsch<\/a> (an Ancien of SC 100) provided a detailed presentation of the Security and Defence Policy of Luxembourg, on behalf of the Ministry\u2019s Defence Directorate. His talk covered the main features of the defence sector reform initiated in 2007. The main objectives of Luxembourg\u2019s current defence policy were summarized as follows:<\/p>\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">\n<ul class=\"list\">\n<li>to  be a reliable partner and add real value to multilateral crisis management;<\/li>\n<li>to  promote a Comprehensive Approach through synergies;<\/li>\n<li>to  participate in the Common Security and Defence Policy, in the best interests of  NATO;<\/li>\n<li>to  strengthen the Transatlantic Link, essential to European security.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">LtCol Yvon <a class='photo' href='\/images\/121FS1_Luxembourg_5_2.jpg' rel='lightbox' title=\" LtCol Yvon Kries \">Kries<\/a> then spoke about the structure, distribution and resources of the Luxembourg Army, also offering an overview of its current contribution to international crisis management missions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">The meeting continued with a speech by Ms Stefanie <a class='photo' href='\/images\/121FS1_Luxembourg_6_2.jpg' rel='lightbox' title=\" Ms Stefanie Wagemans \">Wagemans<\/a> of the Economic Development Directorate, who briefed Course Members on the state of Luxembourg\u2019s industrial and commercial sectors. Final speaker Mr Pierre <a class='photo' href='\/images\/121FS1_Luxembourg_4_2.jpg' rel='lightbox' title=\" Mr Pierre Goerens \">Goerens<\/a> then offered his appraisal of the main issues involved in current and future telecommunications security.<\/p>\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">The visit ended with an<br \/>\n<a class='photo' href='\/images\/121FS1_Luxembourg_2_2.jpg' rel='lightbox' title=\"Open discussion with panellists\"><br \/>\nopen discussion<\/a>, where Course Members were able to discuss a wide range of thought-provoking questions with the speakers.<\/p>\n<p><em>NDC Public Affairs Office<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senior Course 121 group photo at the Congress Hall (Luxembourg).
