On Thursday 8 May 2014, the NATO Defense College (NDC) had the great pleasure of hosting a delegation from the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL). <\/p>\n

The purpose of the visit was for the delegation, led by BALTDEFCOL Commandant MajGen Vitalijus Vaik\u0161noras (LTU A), to learn about the NDC\u2019s objectives and principal activities.<\/p>\n

On arrival, the group was warmly welcomed by LtGen Arne B\u00e5rd Dalhaug (NOR A), NDC Commandant.<\/p>\n

Col Stuart Macrostie (GBR A) gave an initial briefing on the NDC\u2019s mission, also providing information on its academic, research and outreach activities. Afterwards, speakers from the Research Division discussed potential risks of future conflict from various regional perspectives, balancing Southern European, Mediterranean, North African and Middle Eastern viewpoints.<\/p>\n

Established in 1999, the BALTDEFCOL is based in Tartu, Estonia. Its mission is to contribute to the professional development of military officers and civilians, by providing high-quality courses relevant to the needs of joint, interagency and multinational general staffs. Fourteen years after its establishment, it has become an integral part of Baltic military cooperation. The College\u2019s principal courses are: the Joint Command and General Staff Course (General Staff Officers); the Higher Command Studies Course (Leaders of Transformation); and the Civil Servants\u2019 Course (Senior Civil Servants). These are complemented by short, tailored courses, according to the specific requirements of the Baltic States.<\/p>\n
