Participants to Modular Short Course 133-1<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n

The NATO Defense College has had the pleasure to host Modular Short Course 133-1, entitled \u201cThe Global Security Environment\u201d<\/i>, from 10-14 September 2018. Run in conjunction with the Senior Course, this edition of the MSC brings together 10 high-level military and civilian participants from NATO countries.<\/p>\n

The aim of the MSC is to offer participants critical insight into a range of fundamental processes and conceptual issues in the security environment of the 21st century, of particular significance for NATO.<\/p>\n

On Monday morning participants were welcomed in the Maynard-Thorn Auditorium by NDC Dean Brigadier General (ret.) František Mičánek, introducing the day\u2019s lectures on \u201cThe Role of Religion in the International Security Environment\u201d<\/i>. The speakers were Msgr Lucio Sembrano (ITA) and Mr Mustafa Akyol (TUR).<\/p>\n

Over the next three days, the topics were as follows: \u201cStrategic Cultures\u201d<\/i>, covered by Professor Christopher Coker (GBR) on Tuesday; \u201cTechnological Development: Risks and Opportunities\u201d<\/i>, with a lecture by Professor Holger Mey (DEU) on Wednesday; and \u201cThe Significance of Economics for Security and Stability\u201d<\/i>, about which Mr Patrick Cirillo (CAN\/ITA) spoke on Thursday.<\/p>\n

On Friday 14th, the final session of the course featured talks by Dr Tam\u00e1s Hoffmann (HUN) and Prof Arnulf Becker (USA), both of whom spoke about \u201cThe Evolution of International Law and Ethics in Modern Warfare\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n
