The Coronavirus outbreak has severely affected Italy, NDC\u2019s host nation. From the inception of the emergency at the end of February, the College has been fully aware and prepared to react; daily monitoring the spread of the epidemic via the Italian Civil Protection authorities, and adopting all preventative measures enacted by the Italian government and the World Health Organization.<\/p>\n

In line with the worsening of the situation and taking heed of Prime Minister Conte\u2019s decree establishing that only essential work should be performed during this extraordinary period, the College has broadly implemented tele-working opportunities for its staff. It is our priority to reduce the risk of the further spread of infection and to safeguard the health and safety of all.<\/p>\n

Thanks to on-line experimentation in 2019 and hard work by the faculty and staff, we have been able to temporarily operate on-line in a way that retains sufficient quality and achieves most academic objectives. The NDC continues to deliver a distance learning Senior Course academic programme via video teleconference – with lectures and committee work to continue from CMs\u2019 respective homes. <\/p>\n

In keeping with our host nation\u2019s directives and those of NATO HQ, we have suspended all events and visits until further notice. We will remain in close contact with the Italian authorities, NATO Headquarters in Brussels and Course Members\u2019 national governments. <\/p>\n

The NDC will continue to monitor the unpredictable course of the pandemic, keeping up-to-date on any future development. Our goal, as the Alliance\u2019s premier academic institution, is to remain resilient and to adapt to the challenges that this situation will entail, both for NATO and for all the nations involved.<\/p>\n
