The third day of Field Study III took place yesterday at the NATO Defense College with a virtual visit to Allied Command Transformation (ACT)<\/a> in Norfolk, Virginia – NATO\u00b4s warfare development command. <\/p>\n

The objective of the session was to show how ACT continues to tailor, shape, modernize and improve the Alliance\u2019s posture at the leading edge of modern challenges, while constantly focusing on the future.<\/p>\n

After the welcome address, the first session was devoted to Warfare Development with a briefing from Vice Admiral Paul Bennet, GBR (N) Chief of Staff to Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT), giving details on ACT\u2019s approach to innovation goals, and the way ahead for 2021.<\/p>\n

The second session was run by Brigadier General Polome (A) (ACOS SPP) on the NATO Defence Planning Process (NDPP), NATO\u2019s Warfighting Capstone Concept (NWCC) and lessons learned from the COVID crisis.<\/p>\n

Lieutenant Colonel Trihoreau (CAPDEV PMO) and Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Clow, CAN (RCAF) were in charge of the briefing on Capabilities and Innovation.<\/p>\n

The last of the sessions of the day was an interactive Panel Discussion with Flag Officers from Allied Command Transformation followed by a Q&A. Panel participants were: Vice Admiral Paul M. Bennett; Rear Admiral John Tammen, USA (N) (Deputy Chief of Staff Strategic Plans & Policy); Brigadier General Ilmars A. Lejins, LVA (A) (Assistant Chief of Staff Joint Force Development); and Rear Admiral Ren\u00e9 P.Tas, NLD (N) (Assistant Chief of Staff Capabilities).<\/p>\n
