NATO must \u201cstay strong militarily, be more united politically, and take a broader approach globally\u201d.1<\/a> When launching the reflection process on NATO\u2019s future role, NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg set these three priorities to frame his vision of NATO 2030.<\/em><\/p>\n At their meeting in London in December 2019, NATO\u2019s political leaders mandated a \u201cforward-looking reflection process\u201d on how NATO should further adapt to ensure it was able to successfully cope with a world of competing great powers due to the rise of China and Russia\u2019s persistently aggressive posture, together with instability along NATO\u2019s southern periphery, new transnational risks emerging from pandemics, climate change and disruptive technologies.
