Introductory Remarks by SHAPE\u2019s Vice Chief of Staff, LGEN Brice Houdet (screen) and Dr Stephen J. Mariano (lectern)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n

The fifth day of SC 138\u2019s Field Study 3 was devoted to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), which hosted this week’s last stop in this two-week virtual journey. Course Members were briefed on SHAPE\u2019s strategic-level priorities and responsibilities within the NATO Command Structure. <\/p>\n

The session began with Welcome Remarks of the NDC Dean, Dr Stephen J. Mariano, followed by the Introductory Remarks by SHAPE\u2019s Vice Chief of Staff, LGEN Brice Houdet. Afterwards, a lecture on NATO Command Structure highlighting SHAPE responsibilities and activities was provided by CDR (Ret.) Glenn A. Brown, followed by an interesting Q&A session. The following briefing was on the current strategic environment, current operations and exercises and the response to the COVID-19 crisis, delivered by COL Javier Lozano, Deputy Head at the Geographic Operations Group CCOMC. LTC Matthias M. McCormick then briefed Course Members on SHAPE\u2019s contribution to NATO partnerships. In conclusion, RADM B\u00fclent Turan, Deputy Chief of Staff Partnership Directorate, wrapped up the fifth day of Field Study 3 with the Closing Remarks. <\/p>\n
