{"id":13358,"date":"2022-02-11T11:56:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-11T10:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ndc.nato.int\/4th-edition-of-the-early-career-nuclear-strategists-workshop6-8-july-2022call-for-applications\/"},"modified":"2026-01-15T09:34:39","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T08:34:39","slug":"4th-edition-of-the-early-career-nuclear-strategists-workshop6-8-july-2022call-for-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ndc.nato.int\/fr\/4th-edition-of-the-early-career-nuclear-strategists-workshop6-8-july-2022call-for-applications\/","title":{"rendered":"4th Edition of the Early-Career Nuclear Strategists\u2019 Workshop<br>6-8 July 2022<br>Call for Applications"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ndc.nato.int\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/4thEarly-career-Call_for_App_1_1.jpg\" alt=\"Call for Applications 4th Edition of the Early-Career Nuclear Strategists\u2019 Workshop-  6-8 July 2022\" \/><figcaption>Call for Applications 4th Edition of the Early-Career Nuclear Strategists\u2019 Workshop<br \/>\n&#8211;  6-8 July 2022<br \/>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">The NATO Defense College (NDC), in cooperation with NATO\u2019s Nuclear Policy Directorate, is opening a Call for Applications for its fourth edition of the Early-Career Nuclear Strategists Workshop (ECNSW), which will take place from 6 to 8 July 2022 in Rome. <\/p>\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">\n<p><strong>Objectives <\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>\n  The workshop aims to: <\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Promote awareness and expertise on nuclear issues and       deterrence among the younger generation of scholars<\/li>\n<li>Feature the research of young scholars on nuclear       issues and deterrence<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate dialogue between the academic and       policy-making worlds<\/li>\n<li>Establish a network of scholars and policy-makers       working on nuclear issues and deterrence. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Format <\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>\n  The workshop will:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Enable participants to present their own research<\/li>\n<li>Provide a technical introduction to nuclear weapons       (from the physics of nuclear explosion to sensing and counter-sensing       technologies)<\/li>\n<li>Combine lectures by senior scholars on major nuclear       topics (i.e. nuclear doctrine, strategy, arms control or       non-proliferation) and presentations by early-career scholars<\/li>\n<li>Role-play a nuclear-related crisis simulation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Deliverable<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>The NDC Research Division will publish the best papers       presented at the workshop. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Application Process <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n  Applicants must be nationals of a  NATO country.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>  Applicants  can apply for one of the three categories of participants:<\/p>\n<p><ol><\/p>\n<li><strong>Early-Career  Scholars presenting their research<\/strong><\/li>\n<p>Junior scholars <u>below the age of  35<\/u> and who hold a MA degree, are PhD candidates, or hold a PhD in a  relevant discipline, can apply by sending a <u>draft paper of 2,000-2,500 words<\/u> that, if selected, will be presented at the Workshop and published by the NDC;  together with a one-page CV and a cover letter.<br \/>\n  The draft  paper must be analytical and deal with nuclear-  or deterrence-related issues, such as nuclear strategy, nuclear deterrence,  arms control, proliferation, WMD.<br \/>\n  All documents must be sent to <a href=\"mailto:ecnsw@ndc.nato.int?subject=Application%20for%20Early-Career%20Nuclear%20Strategists%20Workshop\">ecnsw@ndc.nato.int<\/a> <u>by May 27, 2022.<\/u><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<li><strong>Participants<\/strong><strong> (non-presenting  their work) <\/strong><\/li>\n<p>Students, researchers and scholars  below the age of 35, who are interested in participating, physically or  remotely, can apply by sending a one-page CV and a cover letter to <a href=\"mailto:ecnsw@ndc.nato.int?subject=Application%20for%20Early-Career%20Nuclear%20Strategists%20Workshop\">ecnsw@ndc.nato.int<\/a> by May 27, 2022.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<li><strong>Government  officials<\/strong>\n<p>Government officials\/military  officers (no age limit) working in a relevant area can apply by sending a  one-page CV and a cover letter to <a href=\"mailto:ecnsw@ndc.nato.int?subject=Application%20for%20Early-Career%20Nuclear%20Strategists%20Workshop\">ecnsw@ndc.nato.int<\/a> by May 27, 2022.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper\">NB.
