In January 2022,<br \/>\nneither government was considering NATO<br \/>\nmembership; in May 2022, they moved decisively into<br \/>\nthe application process. In response, NATO member<br \/>\nstates have rush processed their membership, with most<br \/>\nNATO countries ratifying Accession Protocols. In November 2022, they are a mere two ratifications short of<br \/>\nmembership. Both Finland and Sweden are sending a<br \/>\nstrong message to Allies and Russia by joining NATO<br \/>\nwithout preconditions as already active contributors<br \/>\nand security providers within the Alliance.
