The President of the Czech Republic, H.E. Mr Petr Pavel, addressed Senior Course 143 of the NATO Defense College and Ambassadors from NATO and selected partner countries, on 28 November 2023.<\/p>\n

Entitled \u201cThe Importance of Collective Security in the Context of Current Global Challenges\u201d, the President spoke of the current challenges impacting the global security environment and the Czech Republic\u2019s approach and priorities in response to these challenges. He stressed that Czechia is a committed and active Ally of NATO and highlighted the importance of maintaining unity within the Alliance, and strengthening ties with Partners in order to address the current and future threats and challenges. <\/p>\n

\u201cA firm transatlantic link is the basis of our security strategy. At the same time, I am determined to strengthen partnerships with all interested countries around the world. No one\u2019s security is limited to physical borders. We shall therefore continue to build partnerships where possible\u201d, the President stated.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the President elaborated on the Czech security and defence strategies, highlighting a heightened priority to foster resilience across various dimensions \u2013 at the governmental, societal, economic, judicial, and individual levels. This strategic shift aims to effectively combat both current and future security threats and challenges. <\/p>\n

After the President’s speech, the audience engaged in discussions on key topics such as Czechia’s relationship with neighbouring countries, and the ongoing commitment to provide support to Ukraine, as well as exploring the anticipated strategies for such assistance in the time ahead.<\/p>\n

President Pavel was nominated an Honorary Ancien<\/em> of the NDC during the time he served as Chair of NATO\u2019s Military Committee, by dint of his unwavering support to the College. Built on a remarkable career, as soldier and General to President, and having served high-level positions, nationally as well as internationally, his address was a prime opportunity to listen to and discuss with a core Ally and a President \u201cwith unique insight into today\u2019s security challenges, and the importance of collective security\u201d, according to Lieutenant General Max A.L.T. Nielsen the Commandant of the NATO Defense College. <\/p>\n
