Senior Course 137 - Field Study to Germany
Senior Course 137 continued Field Study I with a virtual visit to Berlin where they received several presentations on German Security and Defence Policy and the German view of contemporary threats and challenges.
After his welcome remarks, the Special Envoy of the Political Director in the German Ministry of Defence and former Director of the NDC Research Division, Dr Karl-Heinz Kamp, gave an overview of German Security Policy. The Head of the MoD’s Military Policy and Operations Division, BGen Dirk Faust, briefed SC 137 on current and future Bundeswehr operations and commitments, followed by a presentation on the key aspects of German Security Policy, the guiding principles, current state and challenges ahead, given by Dr Claudia Major, Head of the International Security Division of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs in Berlin, who provided a very candid and straight-forward academic view of Germany’s national governmental actions. All the sessions were followed by a Q&A session.
The German Field Study Day also served as the setting for the NDC to celebrate the German National Day (Unity Day) that took place on 3rd October.
