SC 138 Innovation Week – Day 4

The last day of the second edition of Innovation Week was devoted to lectures on the Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE) and Robotics. The session offered insights into examples of technology that could impact NATO’s ability to deter and defend the Alliance.

The NDC’s Commandant, LGEN Olivier Rittimann, welcomed Course Members and lecturers and summarized the topics covered during Innovation Week in his introductory remarks. NATO’s Chief Scientist, Dr. Bryan Wells, took the floor in order to provide an overview of the Science and Technology Organization (STO). Afterwards, MGEN Philippe Montocchio, CSO Deputy Director, explained STO’s Collaborative Business Model and Collaborative Programme of Work (CPOW). The second part of the session started with a briefing on CMRE’s mission, business model and assets by Dr. Giovanni Sembenini, CMRE Deputy Director. Lastly, Dr. Bryan Wells briefed on the role that NATO’s Chief Scientist plays in contributing to innovation for the Alliance in terms of advice, strategy and policy. Day 4 of Innovation Week concluded with a very enriching Q&A session.
