Senior Course 116 Field Study; Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE).

On Friday, 30 th April, on its way to Paris, Senior Course 116 visited the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). Course Members were welcomed by Brigadier General Dieter Dammjacob, Director of the Strategic Operations Centre, who gave a general introduction to the operations led by SHAPE, in this way setting the scene before the detailed operational update briefing by Colonel Patrick Andrews, his deputy. This was followed by a presentation by Lieutenant Colonel Ian Woodbridge, working in the Readiness and Requirements Directorate of the Force Readiness Division, who explained extensively how SHAPE is developing concepts for the preparation of forces for future operations.

Mr Laurie Daykin, Chief of the Implementation Directorate of the Military Cooperation Division, closed the series of briefings with an overview of the current military cooperation and its state of play, after a short introduction by the Assistant Chief of Staff for Military Cooperation, Rear Admiral Ion Dumitraşcu.

The question and answer session that followed was chaired and hosted by General Lather, Chief of Staff, and was attended by all this morning’s speakers and also by Mr Charles Kuzell, Special Advisor to SACEUR.

After an enjoyable stand-up buffet luncheon in The Ball Room of the SHAPE Club, where Course Members could further discuss with their National Military Representatives and with officers of the SHAPE Staff and partner Liaison Teams, Senior Course 116 continued its trip to Paris.
