The NATO Defense College Senior Course spent a very rewarding first day of Field Study 1 in Poland, hosted by the War Studies University. Both the NDC and Course Members were most enthusiastic to be able to resume the first SC Field Study in quite some time.

The Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces Major General PhD Piotr A. Błazeusz welcomes the NDC delegation.

The NDC delegation was welcomed by Major General PhD Piotr A. Blazeusz, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces. He provided Course Members with an excellent overview of Poland’s unique role and position in the emerging regional context and on how current initiatives are shaping the future.

Course Members then received lectures on Poland’s current and future involvement in the European Union’s capability building activities within the CSDP/PESCO framework (Tomasz Smigielski, PhD), Poland’s National Security Strategy (Slawomir Kaminski, PhD) and the Pillars of Poland’s Defence Policy (Wojciech Lorenz, PhD). Course Members had the rare opportunity to gain valuable insights, as well as interact with each of the lecturers.

Our host, Brigadier General Robert Kosowski, PhD, the Rector-Commandant for the War Studies University in Warsaw, orchestrated an excellent field study event that included both outstanding learning opportunities, as well as chance to deepen understanding of this NATO country.
