Simon Fraser University (SFU) Students Participate in Simulation Exercise at NDC
From 13 to 16 June 2022, a group of 50 students from the Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada, visited the NATO Defense College to complete a hands-on simulation learning programme based on the NDC Negotiation, Mediation, and Decision-Making Exercise (NMDX).
The exercise at the NDC was part of the SFU’s “NATO Field School and Simulation Program”. Open to university students across all NATO member states, this programme provides participants with an opportunity to observe professionals and experts in their working environment and to understand the decision-making processes of experts in the political, diplomatic and military fields.
At the NDC, the students conducted a simulation exercise that was very similar to the NMDX organized by the College for Senior Course members. It enables participants to gain a better grasp of the Alliance’s organization and functioning in crisis management situations. The aim is to develop a practical understanding of the dynamics in multinational consensus-building mediation, and of the decision-making processes that form part of the overall NATO Crisis Management Process.
