From 11-13 October, the NDC Research Division continued its regular sponsorship of the annual Kingston Conference on International Security (KCIS) organized by the Centre for International and Defence Policy (CIDP) at Queen’s University. Other conference sponsors included the Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Centre and the Strategic Studies Institute of the United States Army War College. The theme this year was “International Competition in the High North”.

The event brought together a group of 150 military officers, international experts and scholars. In a series of six panels, participants discussed security developments and future trends in the High North. Dr Marc Ozawa from the NDC Research Division chaired a panel on “Diplomacy and International Cooperation” in the Arctic. The discussions will inform future NDC research, and a conference paper from Queen’s University is forthcoming.
