On Friday, 23 May 2014, the NATO Defense College Library & Knowledge Centre and the NATO Multimedia Library agreed on a working arrangement with a view to producing and disseminating NATO-related LibGuides.

LibGuides are information resources related to NATO activities. They are publicly available on the NATO HQ website and are currently compiled solely by the NATO Headquarters Library.

NATO LibGuides are topic-specific and are compiled from information generated from multiple sources, including think tanks, relevant books and journals. Examples of these topics are: Arctic Security, Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, Conflict Prevention and Diplomacy, Counterinsurgency in Afghanistan, and Cyberspace Security. The LKC has often used the LibGuides compiled by the HQ Multimedia library in order to meet the information needs of the Senior Course.

Two major benefits will result from this cooperation. First, working time will be optimized for operations that are similar in nature and that, at least in principle, draw from parent sources and information repositories. Second, information will be transmitted through a mutually reinforcing double channel, which will increase its impact: the NATO Website, targeted at the general public, and the NDC LKC channels, covering the incoming and outgoing academic audiences of the College.

As a whole, the joint production of LibGuides will increase NATO visibility and, for the two NATO organizations, will result in overall efficiencies and reduced costs.
