- Fellowship Monograph 8 (FRENCH): "Une Stratégie de Sécurité de l’OTAN pour le Sahel : Avec Qui et Comment?", by Battiss Samir.

“(…) do not try to do too much with your own hands. Better the Arabs do it tolerably than you do it perfectly. It is their war, and you are there to help them, not to win it for them. Actually, also, under the very peculiar conditions of Arabia, your practical work will not be as good as, perhaps, you think it is. (…).” Colonel Thomas Edward (T.E.) Lawrence.
This lesson-learned about the “right level of conflict management” applies to the currently unstable areas on the Alliance’s two flanks, mainly in the Sahel region. The latest publication by the Research Division focuses on the relevant participants in a more robust Mediterranean partnership against terrorism on the Southern Flank, which would include the most experienced Allies and key strategic partners, Algeria and Morocco. The politico-strategic scope of such partnership is examined, as well as the operational priorities in facing the major terrorist threat from the Sahel.
