At the invitation of the Institute of International Relations of the University of Brasilia, the NATO Defense College (NDC) Research Division will convene an international seminar on 20 February 2013 in Brasilia to launch the NDC’s latest book on African Union (AU)-NATO relations. This new publication follows an unprecedented policy research conference on AU-NATO relations, jointly organized by the NDC and the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) in Addis Ababa last year. His Excellency Dr. Isaac Munlo, Ambassador of Malawi to the African Union, who attended last year’s event, has authored the publication’s Foreword.
The seminar in Brasilia aims to discuss NATO’s and Brazil’s support to African capacity building in the field of peace and security. The local diplomatic community and students, faculty and officials dealing with international and African affairs have been invited to attend. The February event is a precursor to a much larger academic gathering to address Euro-Atlantic and Brazilian approaches to global peace and security, which the NDC will organize in Rio de Janeiro in May with the support of local academic partners, the Fundação Getulio Vargas – Center of International Relations (FGV CPDOC) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS).
