On 14 March 2014, a delegation of students and faculty from the Norwegian Defence Command and Staff College visited the NATO Defense College (NDC) in Rome. The aim of the visit was to acquire a better understanding of the main activities of the NDC, recognized as NATO’s premier academic institution.
Upon arrival, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Lieutenant General Arne Bård Dalhaug (NOR A), NDC Commandant.
The visit began with a briefing on the NDC, detailing its mission and activities, but also identifying the objectives and main features of courses.
This was followed by a lecture on the Middle East since the Arab Spring, given by Dr Andreas Jakobs (DEU C), Faculty Adviser in the NDC Middle East Faculty.
The Norwegian delegation also had the opportunity to attend Senior Course 124’s morning lectures, on the topic “Religion and Conflict”, by Dr Fabio Petito (ITA C) and Dr Mustafa Akuol (TUR C). These interesting presentations provided a general overview regarding to religion and conflicts.
The Norwegian Defence Command and Staff College offers high-level professional military education for senior officers, covering the fields of military strategy, doctrine and concept development, joint operations and staff methodology. The College also develops expertise in military logistics and business management, as well as humanitarian law.
