From 21st to 25th October 2019, Modular Short Course (MSC) 135-3 and Integrated Partner Orientation Course (IPOC) 2019-2 were run at the NATO Defense College (NDC). The Courses, entitled “NATO: Present and Future”, was attended by 37 senior officials, both military and civilian, from 23 NATO and Partner countries.
The purpose of the Modular Short Course and Integrated Partner Orientation Course is to analyse the role and character of NATO, its policies, activities and future prospects.
Participants were welcomed, on Monday morning, by NDC Commandant LGEN Chris Whitecross. The first lecture “NATO Conventional and Nuclear Deterrence” was given by Prof Keir Lieber (USA) and Mr Rick Perks (CAN).
Lectures during the rest of week were as follows: “NATO Resource Policy”, by Mr Joris Ghesquiere (BEL); “NATO from Crisis Management to Projecting Stability” by Dr Thierry Tardy (FRA), Director of the NDC Research Division, and COL Ian Hope (CAN), NDC Faculty Adviser and Senior National Representative; “NATO’s Partnership Initiatives” by MGen Jan Kazimierz Toft (DNK), Dr Ayman Khalil (JOR) and Mr Otto Saxén (FIN);and finally “NATO in the Future” by Prof Julian Lindley-French (GBR).
On Friday 29th September, a graduation ceremony concluded MSC 135-3 and IPOC 2019-2.
