Modular Short Courses on “Contemporary NATO” (MSC 141-2 and MSCP 141-1)

Publié: octobre 24, 2022 | Mis à jour: janvier 15, 2026 2 minutes lues

Modular Short Course 141-2 and Modular Short Course – Partner Integrated 141-1 (MSC 141-2 and MSCP 141-1) on “Contemporary NATO” both took place at the NATO Defense College (NDC) from 17 to 21 of October 2022. The Courses ran in parallel with Senior Course 141 and are designed to analyse the complex, challenging and evolving environment in which NATO operates, and how the Alliance adapts to remain relevant and effective in the future.

Aiming to provide Course Members with an overview of some of the global security challenges identified within the scope described as “Contemporary NATO”, the MSCs included a preparatory committee discussion each day, followed by a lecture, a Q&A session and a consolidatory committee discussion.

The Courses were welcomed in Main Auditorium with remarks by Brigadier General Ferenc Molnar, NDC Head of the Academic Operations Division.

Day 1 focused on “Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Area”, with a lecture delivered by Professor Keir Lieber and Professor Jason J. Castillo, followed by committee discussions. Day 2 centered on “NATO in the Future”, with a virtual lecture in the morning by Professor Julian Lindley-French, followed by committee discussions during the afternoon. Day 3 was devoted to “NATO Strategic Concept “and Course Members were briefed by Dr. Thierry Tardy, NDC Head of the Research Division, and Dr. Mark Webber, followed by a consolidatory committee session with the lecturers. On Day 4, the topic of discussion was “StratCom in the New Media World”, with lectures delivered by Mr Janis Sarts and Ms Elisabeth Braw. Finally, the last day focused on “NATO Resource Policy”, addressed by lecturer Mr Joris Ghesquiere. MSC 141-2 and MSCP 141-1 concluded with the conferment of Certificates, delivered by the NDC Dean, Dr. Christopher M. Schnaubelt.
