“For the promotion of a culture of peace, tolerance and respect”: this is the reason why the NATO Defense College Commandant, Lieutenant General Wolf-Dieter LOESER, was awarded the Boniface VIII International Prize 2009 during an inspiring ceremony held in the ancient town of Anagni, 40 kilometres south of Rome, on Saturday 28 November 2009.
The purpose of the prize is to give due recognition to individuals who have distinguished themselves by their total commitment in the community and to underline the social value of their endeavours. It also takes into account the 60th anniversary of NATO and the excellent relationship between the NATO Defense College and the city of Rome.
During his speech of thanks, Lieutenant General LOESER expressed his satisfaction at receiving such an important prize to share with all the College personnel, both military and civilian, who have helped promote the NATO image in the world. The bust of Pope Boniface VIII in profile and the scroll of appreciation are now kept in the College showcase among the most important memorabilia.
