On 20th November 2012, the NATO Defense College (NDC) had the honour of welcoming MajGen Vitalijus Vaikšnoras, Commandant of the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL).
The aim of the visit was to provide MajGen Vaikšnoras with an overview of the NDC and its mission. Upon arrival, he was warmly received by NDC Commandant LtGen Arne Bård Dalhaug. The two Commandants were then joined by NDC Dean Dr Daria Daniels Škodnik and senior College staff, for a comprehensive briefing on the NDC’s academic, research and outreach activities. MajGen Vaikšnoras reciprocated with a brief presentation on the BALTDEFCOL’s organization, mission and responsibilities.
Established in 1999, the BALTDEFCOL is based in Tartu, Estonia. Its mission is to contribute to the professional development of military officers and civilians, by providing high-quality courses relevant to the needs of joint, interagency and multinational general staffs. Fourteen years after its establishment, it has become an integral part of Baltic military cooperation. The College’s principal courses are: the Joint Command and General Staff Course (General Staff Officers); the Higher Command Studies Course (Leaders of Transformation); and the Civil Servants’ Course (Senior Civil Servants). These are complemented by short, tailored courses, according to the specific requirements of the Baltic states.
