On 21st March, a delegation from the Norwegian KAFO (Cadet Organization) arrived in Rome to visit the NATO Defense College (NDC). KAFO is an independent union which takes care of cadets’ career development and rights.
On arrival, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Lieutenant General Arne Bård Dalhaug (NOR A), NDC Commandant.
During the first part of the morning, the Director of Management, Commodore Harald Hakonsen (NOR N), gave a briefing on the NDC’s mission, objectives and activities.
The delegation also had the opportunity to attend Senior Course 124’s morning lecture, on the topic “The European Union’s Common Security and Defence Policy”, by Prof. Julian Lindley-French (GBR C). This presentation provided an interesting overview of the EU’s role and responsibilities in maintaining peace and security, by the common efforts of its members and in cooperation with natural partners such as NATO and the United Nations.
KAFO is part of the BFO (Befalets Fellesorganisasjon – Officers’ Organization), which is the largest of a total of three unions for officers in the Norwegian Armed Forces. The Association works to guarantee and promote cadets’ professional, economic and social interests, throughout the services: it ensures that priority is given to cadets’ academic and social development.
