On March 24th 2014, a delegation from the German Führungsakademie der Bundeswehr (Command and General Staff College, German Federal Armed Forces) visited the NDC to learn more about the College’s mission, objectives and activities.
Col Dr Thomas WILL (DEU A), Faculty Adviser and German Senior National Representative, welcomed the delegation from Hamburg, and gave the initial presentation on the NDC’s mission. The group, comprised of 14 German and other international officers, was led by Col Roland Göbel, who explained that the purpose of the visit to the NDC was an exchange of national and NATO perspectives on high-level education in the security and defence field.
The Head of the Academic and Planning Policy Division, BrigGen Gerd Bischof (DEU F) and guests took the opportunity to enjoy a frank, open-minded and detailed discussion.
The Führungsakademie der Bundeswehr, the German Federal Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Hamburg, is the highest level military training institution of the German Federal Armed Forces, the Bundeswehr. Since 1957, it has not only been preparing top-level military leaders for their functions in the armed forces, at NATO, the EU and the United Nations, but also hosts a variety of seminars, courses and educational events, both for experienced officers and -more recently – also for civilians from Germany and abroad. The students come to Hamburg-Blankenese from almost every part of the world and from a range of different cultures. This diversity has been embraced for decades and represents the signature feature of the college, which has earned it the nickname “Little UN”.
