From 24 to 26 January 2018, Senior Course 131’s Study Project presentations took place at the NATO Defense College.
A key part of the Course, the importance of the occasion was marked by the attendance of the Canadian and Italian Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives to the North Atlantic Council, Kerry Buck and Claudio Bisogniero respectively, together with Lieutenant-General Christian Juneau (CAN A), Deputy Commander Allied Joint Force Command Naples.
Upon arrival at the College, the Authorities were warmly welcomed by the Dean of the NDC, BrigGen (ret.) František Mičánek. Later, accompanied by the Head of the Academic Operations Division BrigGen David Pincet (FRA F), they followed and discussed the presentations prepared by the seven SC 131 Committees.
Over two the two days, the Committees illustrated important strategic issues for the Alliance and for global security, such as deterrence in the cyber domain, NATO cooperation with the EU, NATO-Russia relations, stability in the South and counter-terrorism.
Lieutenant-General Juneau offered closing remarks on Friday 26 January, after three days of intensive work.
A Study Project, collectively drafted and presented by an individual Committee, is a major exercise in critical analysis and consensus-building that affords an excellent consolidation of the entire Senior Course. Working on Study Projects offers a unique opportunity to improve skills required for working in a multinational environment.
