Last weekend, members of NRCC-19 ended their second week in Rome with a short trip to the region of Naples. The purpose of this trip was to help Course Members discover Italy’s rich cultural heritage, exploring the antiquities of the Roman Empire with a visit to the amphitheatre in Capua, but also to admire one of the most famous landmarks of more recent Italian history: the Royal Palace of Caserta.
The visit on Sunday morning to the Abbey of Monte Cassino gave Course Members a unique opportunity to spend time at a site associated with the major Second World War offensive against the strongly defended Gustav Line, which crossed the mountainous country of Southern Italy from coast to coast. This was also an opportunity to celebrate shared history, knowing that North African troops participated in the conquest of Cassino. The capture of Cassino was critical for the Allied forces’ advance through the Liri Valley, which ended with the liberation of Rome.
In addition, during this two-day trip, NRCC-19 Course Members had the opportunity to get to know each other better and foster team spirit.
