On Thursday 8 May 2014, the NATO Defense College (NDC) was honoured to host a delegation from the National Defence University of Poland. The delegation was headed by Col Maciej Marszalek (POL A), Dean of the National Security Faculty of the NDU, and comprised a group of students working under the supervision of Course Director Lt Gen (ret.) Andrzej Tyszkiewicz (POL A).
The objective of the visit was to provide an overview of the mission and activities of the NDC, including a sample of curriculum development in view of changing security priorities.
Upon arrival, the Polish delegation was warmly welcomed by LtGen Arne Bård Dalhaug (NOR A), NDC Commandant.
The visit began with a detailed briefing on the College by the Head of the Curriculum Planning Branch, Col Stuart Macrostie (GBR A). His presentation focused mainly on the NDC’s mission, but also provided information on the objectives and main features of College courses.
Col Macrostie then offered the delegation a practical perspective on the way course curricula at the NDC are updated so as to optimize the focus on current security concerns.
These briefings were followed by an excellent Q&A session.
During the course of the visit, the Polish delegation gained considerable insight into the NDC’s role as NATO’s premier academic institution.
