The Commandant of the NATO Defense College, Lieutenant General Max A.L.T. Nielsen, visited the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, on Monday, 07 October 2024.
Taking the opportunity to share ideas between the two military academic institutions, Lieutenant General Nielsen met with the Superintendent and Dean of the United States Military Academy, Lieutenant General Steven Gilland, and Brigadier General Shane Reeves respectively. Addressing the Corps of Cadets before lunch in the Cadet Mess Hall, LGEN Nielsen offered a hearty “Go Army, Beat Navy” over the loudspeaker to a raucous cheer. After a tour of the installation and its sweeping views of the Hudson River valley in its autumn foliage splendor, LGEN Nielsen met with faculty from the Academy’s Department of Social Sciences to discuss the NDC’s approach to adult learning, which he described as creating “human interoperability.” To cap the day, the Commandant took questions from over 50 cadets participating in the Academy’s International Affairs Forum. The Commandant would like to thank soon-to-be retired Brigadier General Suzanne Nielsen and Mr Liam Sullivan of the Department of Social Sciences for graciously planning and hosting his visit.
