
On 3 May the Director of the International Military Staff (DIMS) Lieutenant General P.J.M. GODDERIJ (RNLAF) delivered the Inauguration Address to the Generals, Flag Officers & Ambassadors Course (GFOAC) at NATO Defense College. Lt Gen. GODDERIJ was welcomed by the NDC Dean Dr Grant HAMMOND.
Twenty-eight countries, six more than the former course, sent representatives to the College: forty-eight Course Members attending the week of lectures on “NATO’s new strategic concept: creating a vision for secure future”.
The goal of the program is to enhance the understanding of current political-military issues within the Alliance, and also to familiarise selected Generals, Flag Officers and Ambassadors or civilians of equivalent rank from NATO, PfP, ICI, Mediterranean Dialogue, Contact Countries and Iraq with current and prospective issues facing NATO as it develops a New Strategic Concept.
The Course Members will attend academic lectures on the Transatlantic Link, the Maghreb and the Middle East, NATO and Russia, Terrorism and Counter- Insurgency.They will also have the opportunity to follow a video conference from Afghanistan with Deputy Commander ISAF Lt Gen. Sir Nick PARKER.
To conclude, the Director of the NATO Defense College Research Division Dr Karl-Heinz KAMP will brief Course Members on NATO and the New Strategic Concept.
