On 24 March 2022, the NATO Defense College (NDC) welcomed a delegation from the Iraqi Defence University for Higher Military Studies (DUHMS), as part of the NATO’s Defence Education Enhancement Programme (DEEP).
The DEEP works with partner countries to help identify the needs and gaps in defence and military education institutions. It is a forum of dialogue between institutions in partner and NATO countries, under which peer-to-peer activities and engagements among subject-matter experts are held.
The aim of the visit was to present to the DUHMS’ leadership the NDC’s structure and Courses, to explore opportunities for Iraqi participation and potential areas of cooperation with the NDC.
After the signature of the Guest Book, the Commandant of the DHUMS had the Office Call with LGEN Rittimann, Commandant of the NDC, and the Dean, Dr. Schnaubelt. The Iraqi delegation presented the mission, the structure and the main activities of the DHUMS. The NDC’s Commandant followed with a briefing on the mission, structure and courses of the NATO Defense College. The presentations were followed by a discussion for exchange of ideas and to identify possibilities of future collaborations between the two institutions.
