On 17 April 2013 the NATO Defense College (NDC) was honoured to host Lt Gen Frederick B. Hodges, (USA A), Commander Land Command Headquarters Izmir, who addressed the ninth NATO Regional Cooperation Course (NRCC 9) , Senior Course 122 and NDC Staff in a Lecture of Opportunity entitled “NATO Transformation”.
The Lecture offered an exhaustive and up-to-date analysis of the current challenges facing the Alliance and how NATO is responding.
The lecture was followed by a Question and Answer period.
Lieutenant General Hodges graduated from the United States Military Academy and was commissioned into the Infantry. He commanded Infantry units at the Company, Battalion and Brigade levels in the 101st Airborne Division. He led the “Bastogne” Brigade during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. His most recent operational assignment was as Director of Operations, Regional Command South, in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
He also served in a variety of Joint and Army Staff positions, including: 2nd Infantry Division in Korea; Aide-de-Camp to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe; and Director of the Joint Staff Pakistan Afghanistan Coordination Cell.
His last assignment before becoming the first Commander of the new NATO Land Command Headquarters was as Chief of Legislative Liaison for the United States Army, from July 2011 to July 2012.
