From 9 to 13 September 2019, in conjunction with Senior Course 135 and NATO Regional Cooperation Course 22, the NATO Defense College hosted the Modular Short Course (MSC 135-1) entitled “The Global Security Environment”. The Course was attended by ten high-level military and civilians, from eight NATO Countries.
On Monday morning, attendees were welcomed in the Main Auditorium by NDC Commandant LGEN Chris Whitecross, after which the first lecture on “International System and Schools of Thought” was given by Prof. Todd Hall (USA).
During the rest of the week, the lectures were as follows: “Strategic Cultures”, by Prof. Christopher Coker (GBR), on Tuesday; “Technological Development: Risks and Opportunities”, by Prof. Holger May (DEU), on Wednesday; “Evolution of International Law in Modern Warfare” , by Dr Tamás Hoffmann (HUN) and Mr Rodrigo Vasquez Benitez (ESP), on Thursday; “Conflict and Confrontation: the Changing Nature of Conflict”, by Dr Robert Johnson (GBR), on Friday.
Following the last lecture, a graduation ceremony concluded MSC 135-1.
The aim of the Course is to analyse specific trends in the evolution of the security environment and their significance for NATO, allowing participants to focus on the Alliance’s role and contribution in this context.
